UPSRTC Hikes AC Bus Fares by 10% — UP Travellers to Pay More This Summer

Lucknow, June 29: In a move that could pinch passengers' pockets this summer, the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has announced a 10% hike in fares for all its air-conditioned (AC) bus services starting May 1. The decision, attributed to escalating fuel costs and increased operational expenses, affects thousands of daily passengers across the state.

Under the revised tariff, a journey that previously cost Rs 100 will now cost Rs 110, making intercity travel via AC buses significantly costlier during the peak travel season.

The fare hike is applicable across all UPSRTC premium services, including:
  • Janrath
  • Shatabdi
  • Scania
  • Volvo
According to UPSRTC officials, the rising cost of diesel, maintenance, and replacement parts has made this price revision inevitable. “We’ve tried to absorb the pressure for as long as possible, but the current cost dynamics have left us with no choice,” a senior UPSRTC official told reporters.

While AC bus fares are going up, non-AC (ordinary) bus services remain unaffected, providing a budget option for price-sensitive passengers.

According to the daily traveller who uses AC buses during their daily travel from one place to another. Especially office-going people and students who depends on AC services for daily intercity travel, this move is expected to increase their monthly transport expenses substantially.

"I travel between Lucknow and Kanpur every week on a Volvo. This hike means I’ll be spending at least Rs 400 more each month," said Rakesh Verma, a software professional.
