100 Electric Buses Hit the Roads from Narela Depot on 27 June
New Delhi — The Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, is all set to inaugurate the Narela Bus Depot on June 27, 2025, marking a major step forward in the city's push toward green and smart mobility.

The new depot will house 100 electric buses under the Delhi Electric Vehicle Interconnect (DEVI) initiative. Equipped with a modern charging station and a maintenance hub, the Narela facility is designed to serve as a key node in Delhi’s growing electric transport network.
CM Gupta will be joined by Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan and several other senior leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to officially flag off the fleet of 100 buses from the depot.
Delhi has already begun trial runs for the DEVI buses, primarily aimed at improving last-mile connectivity in congested and narrow areas of the city. This move comes as part of a larger plan by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) to expand its electric vehicle infrastructure and create large-capacity charging zones capable of servicing multiple buses simultaneously.
Officials have confirmed that the Narela depot will serve North Delhi, not only as a bus hub but also as a high-capacity charging station to support the city’s broader electrification strategy.
CM Rekha Gupta has been vocal about her government’s commitment to making Delhi’s entire public transport fleet electric, in line with a state government circular mandating that, starting January 2026, all newly registered vehicles in Delhi must either comply with BS6 standards or be fully electric.
The new electric buses will feature state-of-the-art safety and tech upgrades, including 24x7 CCTV surveillance, GPS tracking for live location updates, and emergency stop buttons, aiming to offer passengers a safer and smarter commuting experience.
This initiative builds upon the earlier Mohalla Bus Service, introduced by the BJP government. Which deployed compact buses for navigating narrow lanes and underserved localities. The DEVI project now scales up that model with cleaner, smarter, and more efficient electric buses.
